"There can be only one King!"

In a not so distant future, the worst thing imaginable has happened. The great cities of the world lay in ruin. The few souls who survive wander as nomads swearing allegiance to various warlords. The greatest of these being Duncan, of Scotland. Now, in a post apocoylptic fortress, one man plots his ascension. But what is Macbeth's destiny? Greatness...or Death?

Black Box Theatre Publishing presents a modern language version of the Shakespearean Classic, set in a dark future world which exists only a heartbeat away.

Cast Size: 17. Running Time: 90 Minutes.

From the Author:

The whole purpose of this play was to create a version of Macbeth that young people would enjoy watching and participating in. I have referred to it on more than one occasion as Macbeth for the X-Box Generation, and I think, at least visually, that 's what productions of this play should strive for. A post-apocalyptic nightmare set in an urban fortress framed with barbed wire. Homeless shadows hovering around smoking barrels while a great city smolders in the background. TV screens are placed strategically across the wasteland as certain characters appear in a Big Brother-esque fashion.

The scenes that appear on screen can be filmed before hand and played back during the performance, with adequate pauses left for the onstage actors to respond. Don't be afraid of this technical aspect of this show. In the productions I have been involved with, most with very modest budgets, the video playback only required a few TV's, a VCR, a splicer and enough cable to connect them all together. Modern technology will make this even easier.

Please note that the language of the play has been slightly modernized for this version as well. Modern audiences will have no trouble understanding dialogue.
