L'autore:
So where and how did this come about? In truth it started when I was born. Just like every human-being I was raised in a family that taught me thought patterns about life; education, religion, how a girl acts, how a boy acts, the structure of marriage/family, what is appropriate, what is not appropriate, and so on. Every family differs in the thoughts they believe about these subjects and my family taught me from their perceptive. Of course at the time I didn't label my beliefs as thought patterns. My thoughts were fact and real to me. In late 2009 I was teaching a seminar detailing where different thought patterns effected the body and how, when a lovely lady invited me to lunch afterwards. During lunch she told me about a new program that was just about to be launched called Jessie Program. Its mission was to help girls between the ages of 14-18 transition out of Juvenile Detention ("hall") and back into society. Within a few months I engaged in the program and fell in love with the girls. Eventually while teaching/working with the girls in the hall I started to make notes on what I call "their stories". I noticed they struggled to create education, relationships, jobs, and so on because they supported creating their story over their life; they were chasing belonging, importance, love, being cared for, and much more versus creating education, careers, or relationships. For example: in order to belong they would dishonor themselves by stealing, or having sex with someone they really didn't want to, to mention only a couple actions. They would become slaves to whatever sources they were seeking their needs from. It made me wonder what would happen if they changed their thoughts (story). Would they be able to create a different life? So I wrote down the fundamental/core thought patterns that I noticed were disempowering these young adults. I also gave them empowering thought patterns they could embrace. After two years, the young adults that engaged in the lessons were still using the language they learned. Saying things like; "That doesn't honor me!", and "I love me!" WOW! Amazing! I had no idea how much the information would stick with them or affect what thoughts they believed in a positive way. Within three months after coming to this understanding, I wrote "Write Your Own Story!". April Dawn Corbitt
