Sinossi

Praised by Nick Hornby and singled out by Granta magazine as one of the best young writers in America, Christopher Coake has written a heartstopping first novel about love and loss, grieving and belief. Mark Fife thinks he has got over the death of his son Brendan in an accident and the break-up of his marriage. He's in love again, he's successful and he believes he has grieved properly. But when a crazy woman claims Brendan's ghost is back in their old house, and his ex-wife wants so much to believe her, Mark finds himself desperately trying to cling on to his sanity. And desperately trying to discover where his future lies. You Came Back is a modern ghost story, a Lovely Bones for our time.

Dalla quarta di copertina

Thirty-something Mark Fife believes he has successfully moved on from the accidental death of his young son Brendan and the subsequent break up of his marriage to Chloe. He still has disturbing dreams occasionally, but he's in love again, with a fine woman called Alison, his job is going well, and he believes he has mastered his memories.

But then the current owner of Mark's old house claims that it's haunted by Brendan's ghost, and the old nightmares return, bringing some persistent questions with them. Has Brendan truly gone, or is he searching for Mark and Chloe's help? What would it mean to believe in a ghost? How will Alison react with Chloe back in his life? And who does he truly love?

You Came Back is a heartstopping novel which examines the beauty and danger of belief in all its forms, not only in the supernatural but in the values and beliefs which bind parents and children and lovers together.
