9780692300374: The Tinder Box: How Politically Correct Ideology Destroyed the U.S. Forest Service

This second edition of "The Tinder Box," published in September 2014 by Seneca Books, provides readers with greater detail concerning events that occurred within the U.S. Forest Service from 1982 through 2008, and has a far more extensive Index. Since 1990 over 113,000,000 acres of America's timber lands have been consumed by wildfire, one of many disasters the U.S. Forest Service must be held accountable for. Over that same period the timber industry, companies engaged in making wood products, owners of properties adjacent forest lands, and the public at large have become incensed by the agency's ineptitude. To learn more read Christopher Burchfield's "The Tinder Box: How Politically Correct Ideology Destroyed the U.S. Forest Service." The book goes back to the very beginning--33 years ago--when the agency set about destroying itself from within. Readers will finally grasp those terrible events inside the agency, all of which took place entirely outside of public purview. Indeed, this is the first inside look at how--step-by-step, political correctness destroyed an American institution.

About the Author:

Christopher Burchfield is also the author of "Choose Your Weapon: The Duel in California, 1847-1861," the only book on the subject ever published, 268 pp. He has had roughly 120 articles published in various magazines and newspapers, largely of historical nature. When not writing or researching he likes to hike. He and his wife have taken 10 photographic safaris to Africa since 2002.

Review:

Review America's forests have presented extreme challenges and temptations -- and have been the scene of greed and lawlessness -- for hundreds of years. But the reign of affirmative action racketeers has exposed them to an unprecedented threat. It is no exaggeration to say the U.S. Forest Service has been willfully destroyed by the religion of equality. Laura Wood, The Thinking Housewife

For resource and recreation professionals, understanding the agency you work for or with is critical. As an OHV recreation consultant who often works with federal and state land management agencies, I want to share my thoughts on one of the most eye-opening works of agency-related literature that I have read in recent years.Written by Christopher Burchfield, The Tinder Box, chronicles how the Forest Service (with a special focus on Region 5) became host to one of the largest court-ordered social experiments in modern times.

Don Amador, former president of the Blue Ribbon Coalition

Fantastic as it may seem the agency also launched a "Gender Hostile Tool Hunt." Smaller, lighter tools replaced tools that were deemed too heavy or required too much torque for female employees to operate. As the Consent Decree Committee had forecast, from 1984 onward Region 5 began hemorrhaging male employees in great numbers. In many instances experienced old hands were simply bought into retirement to be replaced by "green" employees who had little knowledge of forest operations.....
