9780692522769: Leading Regular Folks: What Matters Most in the Workplace

Most leaders know that employees are an asset, but do they understand how to maximize that asset? Russ Robertson, former vice-president of career development and operational training at the world’s largest corporation, discovered the truth to achieving top results through your existing employees. In Leading Regular Folks, you will gain a new understanding of what actually matters most to the people responsible for the actual execution of your business plan. Russ will show you how every individual leader’s behavior impacts their organization, for better or worse. And you'll learn how to maximize your impact within your organization regardless of job title or level of formal education by: ~Communicating priorities and expectations so clearly they cannot be missed. ~Creating a work environment where everyone understands what’s in it for them. ~Inspiring employees rather than intimidating them. ~Developing an atmosphere of ownership throughout your business or organization. ~Being a strong yet humble, people-focused leader, versus an arrogant, self-centered leader. ~Going out of your way to understand what inspires and motivates the regular folks in your organization—which is most of them. And that’s just the beginning. Start now to achieve improved results as you learn the simple, but often misunderstood, truths of Leading Regular Folks.

About the Author:

Russ Robertson began his leadership career with Walmart while in high school. Starting as an hourly store associate, he earned his way through the organization while filling several diverse leadership roles in numerous areas of his former company. In 1982, Russ was the youngest store manager in Walmart. Two years later, he was managing the 4th Sam’s Club to ever open its doors. It was there that his team of dedicated and hardworking associates produced the second-highest sales revenue and net-profit dollars in the 23-year history of the Walmart organization. Over the course of his career, Russ observed a wide variety of leadership styles at all levels and witnessed over and over how people responded to those various styles of leadership. As an ongoing student of what works and what doesn’t, Russ came to realize what actually matters most to regular folks in the workplace. He shares those discoveries with you in his first book, Leading Regular Folks.
