Hungary is shown at a scale of 1:500,000 (approximately 8 miles to the inch; or 5 kilometres to the cm). Its coverage is from Austria, including Vienna, in the west, to Ukraine and Romania in the east. To the north lies Slovakia, whilst to the south lie Slovenia, Croatia, and Yugoslavia. A city plan of the capital, Budapest, is included. There is a comprehensive key to symbols in four languages: English, French, Hungarian and German. The physical geography of the country is clearly depicted by the use of layer colours to indicate the height of land above sea level, and hillshading to emphasize the more mountainous regions. Individual summits are named and spot heights used. Rivers, lakes and important canals are all shown. Roads, railways, and international airports are all clearly shown. There are six categories of road: ranging from motorways to important dirt tracks, with an additional class showing those roads under construction. Road numbering shows the E-routes in addition to the national system. Distances, in kilometres, are given between most towns and villages. Frontier crossings are also included. Tourist information includes the location of chair-lifts, rack railways, car ferries, National Parks, scenic spots, historic sites and ruins, hotels, medicinal baths and other sites of interest.
