It draws on the letters and diaries of Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy, and of their contemporaries Coleridge and Southey. Author Hunter Davies also taps his own knowledge of the Lake District, which featured so strongly in Wordsworth life, to present a complete portrait of England's best-known poet.

This remains the definitive popular biography of England's best known poet. || A classic biography which is a joy to read. || A painstakingly researched book that is both informative and eminently readable. || As valuable as ever in providing general readers with a life of the genius without the need to resort to the many detailed academic studies. Furthermore anything by Hunter Davies is well worth opening.
L'autore
Hunter Davies is the author of over 30 books, many of them with a Lake District connection, as well as biographies of Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter and Eddie Stobart. His authorised biography of Wainwright appeared in 1995. He is married to the novelist and biographer Margaret Forster and they divide their time between London and their Lake District home in Loweswater.
