Charles McCorquodale's book outlines the history of interior decoration from Classical times to the present day. It sets the development of the domestic interior in its wider artistic, social and historical context. In addition to using photographs, the author uses paintings, engravings and drawings from many periods so that the original appearance, significance and function of interiors can be better understood. The author is a free-lance historian and lecturer who specializes in Baroque art and the history of interior decoration. His books include "The Baroque Painters of Italy", "Bronzino" and the catalogue of the Royal Academy exhibition "Painters in Florence 1600-1700".
