Descrizione libro Hardcover. Condizione: Fair. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. First published in 1968, this is a subsequent impression of c.1975, but I don't know which as this copy is ex library and ffep, title page and copyright page have been cut away, presumably to remove stamps. Some edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, corners slightly rubbed, small skinned patch to top front jacket (removal of old sticky label?), but largely pink jacket with picture of warrior still bright and unsunned. Not price clipped (17s 6d), no inscriptions, internally clean and tight, overall a poor book in a good jacket. 159pp. Arthur and Robin Hood from England, Cuchulain and the Sons of the Red Branch from Ireland, the Scottish Finn Mac Cool, the Welsh Taliesin and Bran, son of Llyr, and other legendary heroes appear in this collection of hero tales, and there are less well known but delightful stories too, like that of Ian Direach, from each part of the British Isles. Barbara Leonie Picard (1917-2011), was a folklorist and writer of children's books, known best for historical fiction and for retellings of ancient myths and medieval legends. She said of herself 'When I was a small child, polite people said of me that I was shy, I never was, I was merely unsociable. When I was grown up, they called me reserved, I was, but only because I was unsociable. Now that I am old, they speak of me as a recluse, and I am a recluse, because I am still unsociable'. Quite a scarce book. Codice articolo 006529
