This is a previously unpublished book by Alan Watts who is going to be featured on the ‘Reputations’ TV series. It has been very well edited by Watt’s son Mark to give a fascinating insight into his father’s perspective on the Tao.
Watts played a major role in bringing Taoist and Zen philosophy to the West in the 1960s and early 1970s. In his later years Watts became increasingly fascinated with the Tao and had been intending before he died to write a classic book on the subject, much as he had done in The Way of Zen. He did not live to complete this. The following chapters are derived from lectures delivered between 1968 and 1973 at weekend seminars. They were very lively events and drew great crowds. Those lectures have helped complete the body of work that Watts had completed before his death.
This volume looks set to become a classic and definitive work on this fascinating subject.

No one has captured the spirit of Taoism as brilliantly as Alan Watts. Between 1968 and 1973 he gave a series of colourful lectures that always drew an enthusiastic crowd of people with diverse interests. All who heard him came away fascinated with the Tao, and captivated by this ancient Oriental way.
At the time of his death, Alan Watts was working on a definitive guide to Taoism, derived from his famous lectures such as 'The Philosophy of the Tao', 'Being in the Way', and 'Landscape, Soundscape'. This work has now been completed by his son. 'Taoism: Way Beyond Seeking' distils the essential teachings of Alan Watts into one volume. Capturing all the energy and penetrating vision of his lectures, it reveals his words to be as relevant and prophetic today as they were over 25 years ago.
Alan Watts(1915-1973) was an acclaimed author, philosopher and acclaimed academic. During the 1960's he held seminars and lectures throughout the US on the nature of Taoism.
