Jade Chatham is a young girl growing up in the south. Her father is a Senator and he spends half of the year in Washington, D.C. Her whole life has been a secret. She doesn't know her mother and she rarely spends time at home. She doesn't know any of the town's people. She met a few people through her father but they never receive her well. She believes it is because her mother abandoned them when she was little. Her father shelters her from the whispers and malicious talk of the townspeople. Jade knows there is something more to her mother and why she left
WindSong is about a girl in her adolescence that only knows a small portion of herself. She only knows what her father will allow her to know about her mother. Her mother is the reason behind her father's strange behavior. Jade grows up in isolation but learns to adapt to it. She wonders why her father never dates and why he isolates himself. He has deep-rooted anger towards her mother and it keeps him from finding love. He finally tells her the truth about her mother and why she leaves them. She is not devastated at the information but at the reasons behind her father's hateful actions. She can't understand how he can love her and hate her at the same time. Her father also harbors a love for her mother that she can't understand until he dies.
