An antidote to all books about European unity and co-operation. The author exposes the corruption and waste which, he maintains, infects the entire community - its pampered officials, its bribed beaurocrats and its vast squandered subsidies. He reveals why the community's agricultural policy offers the Mafia rich pickings, how collusion between one EEC official and his friends is costing European tax payers one billion US dollars in tobacco subsidies and how all 12 countries reap huge profits at the expense of the natural environment. He asserts that the Community needs an urgent overhaul and police investigation. In conclusion he outlines how, as the Community grows more cumbersome, its organization can be radically improved to give tax payers better value for money. Nigel Tutt is a financial journalist in Brussels where he covers the affairs of the EEC for various journals. His award-winning first book "The Tax Raiders" was published in 1985.
