Kurt Busiek has been writing comic books professionally since selling his first Green Lantern script to DC Comics in 1982. Well-known for his encyclopedic knowledge of comic-book history, Busiek's career reached superstar status in 1994 with Marvels, painted by Alex Ross. Chronicling the landmark events of the early Marvel Universe from an ordinary reporter's point of view, this ground-breaking project earned Busiek and Ross the prestigious Eisner Award for Best Finite Series. Busiek's writing highlights include Thunderbolts and Iron Man, as well as his collaboration with artist George Pérez on Avengers and the historic JLA/Avengers crossover. Busiek continues to write his creator-owned Astro City, now in its 20th year.
George Pérez has been a legend in the comic-book industry seemingly since his first professional work in 1973. Pérez had already drawn nearly every major character at both Marvel and DC -- including the New Teen Titans, the Justice League of America, the Fantastic Four and the Avengers -- when he illustrated Crisis on Infinite Earths, a massive series that redefined the DC Universe for a generation. Next, he embarked on an acclaimed five-year run on Wonder Woman. Well-known for his skills handling large casts of characters, Pérez surpassed all expectations with his artwork on JLA/Avengers, a 2003 crossover that featured nearly every member of both teams.
Roger Stern wrote well-received runs of Amazing Spider-Man, Captain America and Doctor Strange, among other titles. During his ASM run, he introduced Captain Marvel (Monica Rambeau), the Hobgoblin (Roderick Kingsley) and other major Marvel figures. West Coast Avengers is just one of his contributions to the franchise; others include a long stint as monthly writer and work on multiple miniseries. His graphic novel Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom: Triumph and Torment provided major developments for Marvel's most prominent super-villain.
"Busiek and Pérez's Avengers is a great team book. The 'team' storylines are all really enjoyable, but it's Busiek's use of a wide range of characters that make his Avengers truly great. Every character across as a real person, all with their own concerns and problems, and Busiek's ability to explore and develop these in context of the ongoing Avengers storyline and team dynamic is what makes this such an enticing read." -- Ernie Capagal
"[George Pérez's] later Avengers work was even better than the early stuff. The newer coloring techniques really suited his penciling style." -- Mary Warner
"What is there NOT to love about George Pérez's art?!?" -- Tom Fitzgerald
"[With Avengers Forever,] Kurt Busiek, Roger Stern, Carlos Pacheco & Jesus Merino delivered [a] time-travel classic that relied on a unique team of Avengers plucked from the past, present and future. Each member of the team is chosen at a very specific moment, from Captain America--at the peak of his strength, but the nadir of his confidence--to Hank Pym at both his then-present status and also from when he first became Yellowjacket. This was a unlikely collection of Avengers and their journey would take them across space and time to fight for the destiny of Earth itself." -- Brian Cronin
"A terrific run with some amazing stories -- especially if you like Kang/Immortus or are excited for Age of Ultron. The hardcover also includes Avengers Forever, which is a pretty great story; I often compare it to Sandman ... the pay-off is tremendous." -- Matthew Meylikhov
"Ultron has and always will be one of the great Avengers villains. 'Ultron Unlimited' was arguably his finest hour. Rarely have the Avengers been tested so physically by any foe." -- Jesse Schedeen
"Busiek's run is one of the great Avengers runs of all time, up there with Thomas and Stern ... Busiek really gets the personalities and relationships of the classic Avengers." -- David P. Lyons
"Busiek & Pérez took the Avengers to another level and produced a run of amazing stories. The heroes face an array of foes like no other: Morgan Le Fay, the Squadron Supreme, the Kree, the Thunderbolts, the Wrecking Crew... not to mention facing Kang and Immortus in the Destiny War!" -- KC Carlson
