Having served as the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations in charge of peacekeeping for seven years, starting in 1986, Goulding was involved with missions in Angola, Yugoslavia, Somalia, Lebanon, and Cambodia. In his memoirs of those years, he describes his involvement with those missions, as well as the bureaucratic infighting that frequently characterized the United Nations politics. Sir Marrack Goulding is Warden of St. Antony's College at the University of Oxford. He joined the British Diplomatic Service in 1959 and served in various capacities in Lebanon, Kuwait, Libya, Egypt, the United States, and Angola. From 1986 to 1993, he worked in the United Nations as Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations; from 1993 to 1997, he was Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs.
