PreS-Gr 2-- Marzollo adapts 21 familiar rhymes and short poems to a teddy bear world. It's a clever idea, and most often successful. Children will recognize ``One little, two little, three little teddy bears,'' and ``Bear light, bear bright, first bear I see tonight,'' complete with bear-faced star in the sky, will surprise and amuse. Schweninger's bright and cheerful watercolor illustrations complement the text without overwhelming it. Her cartoon teddy bears visit the zoo, skip rope, and cavort in large colorful scenes. However, one teddy bear poem is illustrated with pandas, which are not bears, much less teddies. This incongruity will not take away from children's enjoyment. Poems are usually very short, although there is an occasional piece that is 12 or 16 lines. The book is slender, and it is a pleasure to browse through the pages. There is no table of contents to help young readers find a favorite selection. A charming book, equally suited to quiet time sharing or active participation. --Jane Tighe, Baltimore County Public Library
