Dust jacket in virtually perfect condition. VERY GOOD/FINE. "Winston Churchill was a man of excess," writes Ronald Lewin, "He was excessive in emotion; in egocentricity; in physical and mental energy; excessive in his single-minded concentration on selected objectives. For a war leader these traits were at once a strength and a weakness; but they had been evident in Churchill's character since his earliest days, and by 1940 nothing could change him." Lewin shows Churchill to be a man who always beleived he was "one of Providence's chosen few: a man set apart, selected to rise above the ruck of humanity for the consummation of a pre-destined purpose." When he was appointed Prime Minister and became the ultimate War Lord, he continued to play the heroic part. And, according to Lewin, he himself was his most astonished spectator, Churchill saw himself "moving through the smoke of battle--truimphant, terrible, his brow clothed with thunder, his legions looking to him for victory, and not looking in vain.".
