This lovely, lyrical poem, presented here in five languages English, Persian, French, Arabic and Italian initiates the reader into the noble Sufi quest for the Beloved. Significantly, the author's words express a longing for the true Beloved that reflects the desire that the author's own students realize in him.Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. The following verse begins on page 14.
Make haste in this world, O seeker, for it's late,
Implore God for thy journey to undertake.
Thy heart is for the Beloved's cup to fill,
Then, and only then thy return to God's made.
When thy heart's gate is fully opened to God,
God's mysteries will in thy heart be revealed.
As God is for all men the Guide and the Light,
With His love learn the sure way to love thy God.
In fading twilight when the spirit of souls,
Take life from the cup of Life that God bestows,
Rise up and with thy sincere and joyful heart,
Beseech God for His blessings and for His love.
And when the Merciful God, His grace doth bless,
In proximity to Him thy soul is blessed.
To the whims of thine self thy eyes shall be closed,
If thy vigil for forty nights should endure.
Hasten, and seek refuge in the Lord, thy God,
The way is found in the solitude of heart.
For forty days in thyself, ferment as wine,
To inherit God's Treasure, His blessed Light.
