In 2007, Tao started his current web log, posting results of his research, other recent developments in mathematics, lecture notes, puzzles, articles, and, you know, blog stuff. Selections from the first year have already been published. By 2008, the selections had grown to two volumes, of which the first has already appeared. This second volume focuses on geometry, topology, and partial differential equations. Most of it is devoted to lecture notes from his course on French mathematician Jules Henri Poincaré's (1854-1912) conjecture, recently solved by Perelman. Other topics include Hassell's proof of scarring for the Bunimovich stadium, concentration compactness and the profile decomposition, and an airport-inspired puzzle.
