Prsentes sous forme plastifie robuste, ces planches peuvent servir de guide pour les personnels de laboratoire et de terrain dans les pays d'endmie et/ou de matriel ducatif pour les tudiants et les stagiaires. Elles ont pour but d'aider le microscopiste tablir avec certitude la prsence de parasites dans les selles, qu'il s'agisse de minuscules kystes de protozoaires ou de gros oeufs d'helminthes, et de les identifier correctement. A ces fins, les planches comprennent des instructions pour le laboratoire ainsi que des images de haute qualit. Les microphotographies montrent les carac-tristiques diagnostiques de chacun des parasites tels qu'ils apparaissent dans diffrentes prparations et sous des grossissements diffrents. Chaque microphotographie est imprime avec un trait de mesure et s'accompagne d'une brve lgende explicative qui appelle l'attention sur les caractres distinctifs et aide confirmer le diagnostic. Les oeufs d'helminthes sont illustrs dans les 36 premires microphotographies, qui montrent les tapes diagnostiques des helminthes les plus courants, et notamment des nmatodes, des cestodes, des schistosomes et d'autre trmatodes. Les autres microphotographies donnent des conseils sur la manire d'accomplir une tche plus difficile, savoir dtecter et identifier des trophozotes et kystes de protozoaires intestinaux. Les techniques de laboratoire pertinentes sont dcrites au verso des planches. Les instructions portent sur l'talonnage du micromtre oculaire, la prparation de frottis fcaux par la mthode directe, les techniques de concentration des selles, la technique de Kato-Katz, et les techniques de coloration des protozoaires dans les selles. Les autres matriels de laboratoire comprennent des dessins montrant la forme relative et la taille de vingt oeufs d'helminthes, une liste des caractristiques diagnostiques des coccidies intestinales et des microsporidies parasites de l'homme, et des cls de dtermination permettant l'identification de trophozotes d'amibes, de trophozotes de flagells intestinaux, et de kystes d'amibes et de flagells.
