The corkscrew was invented in the seventeenth Century, the original design being based on a device used for withdrawing a ramrod from a gun barrel, and since then inventive minds have produced thousands of different versions.- The student of corkscrews will derive pleasure not only from their technological ingenuity but also from the elaborate decoration applied to some examples' In this book Evan Perry traces the history of corkscrews; he illustrates many different ones and explains how they work and how they were made. He also covers other kinds of tools made to open bottles sealed with types of cap or stoppers other than corks.## ## Shire Books by Bloomsbury Publishing, a book publishing company based in London, England, and formerly by Shire Publications Ltd. and Osprey Publishing.
