'This is a good introductory text book which introduces students to essential concepts they will encounter in the study of education. Throughout, the book has useful sections for reflecting on learning'
- Dr Claire Tupling, Department of Childhood Studies, Canterbury Christ Church University
In my opinion, the strengths of this text are many. First, it is very readable; the tone is engaging and encourages the reader to work through the whole text. Secondly, the fact that a companion website has been created to support the books is of particular significance. The third strength is the inclusion of reader reflexion boxes, containing questions or topics for consideration. Finally, a recommended reading list at the end of each chapter, identifying relevant additional reading on each of the topics, provides the student with a complete ‘learning package’. Bartlett and Burton’s Introduction to Education Studies represents a fine piece of scholarship and research, a text both readable in its approach and stimulating in its presentation for the contemporary student of education. (Daniel H. Jarvis)
