Dalla quarta di copertina:
I told him I didn't want to, but he kept saying Mum would get ill and it would be my fault. But I was getting older, understanding more, and questioning things. He could still force me, but never again would I quietly comply. He needed to up his game. He needed to rape me.
Tracy Black was only five years old when her mother was hospitalised for the first of many occasions, leaving Tracy in the care of her father. His behaviour, seemingly overnight, changed from indifferent to violently abusive and, for the next seven years, Tracy was sexually and physically assaulted by her father, his friends and her own brother. Tracy's father compounded the abuse by sending her to baby-sit for his paedophile friends, who would find ways to molest her when their wives were out. Like many children who suffer abuse, Tracy was too scared to talk about it, masking her despair as bad behaviour. Finally, everything came to a head and she was given refuge in a girls' boarding school, where she found the companionship and help she needed to rebuild her young life.
Tracy's shocking and compelling story reveals the horrific betrayal of trust perpetrated by men who were considered upstanding citizens. It reminds us all of the secrets too many children are forced to carry alone. It is only now that she can tell her full story of recovery.
