Conor O'Clery was born in Belfast and educated at Queen's University Belfast. He has worked for the Irish Times for 26 years in various positions, including news-editor and resident correspondent in Belfast, London, Moscow, Washington and currently Beijing. He will be the Irish Times business/financial correspondent in New York in 2001. He has won several awards for his work, including Journalist of the Year in Ireland in 1987, and he is the author of four books: Phrases Make History Here, America, A Place Called Hope, Melting Snow and The Greening of the White House.
