Descrizione libro Originalbrochure. Condizione: Gut. 35 p. From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - A very good and clean copy. - From the text: World history involves the study of developmental patterns on a very large scale, ones that embrace lines of interaction and change across broad expanses of time and space. World-historical perspectives must be capable of highlighting powerful continuities along with decisive turning-points, emphasizing both the diversity and the common denominators of humanity's past. While most practitioners of this demanding field agree that the scale of observation should ultimately be global, many deny the existence of global history prior to 1500, and some would even insist that we must wait for the recent surge of worldwide economic and cultural integration before we can talk meaningfully about global realities. Recognizing the historical conditions that support such positions, world historians can still speak of global phenomena operating at least as far back as the late Pleistocene when human beings successfully occupied all of the great habitable land masses of the planet if they abandon their search for processes that operated literally worldwide and concentrate instead on significant developmental patterns that may have unfolded regionally, but unfolded nonetheless in similar and roughly simultaneous ways at various locations. Thinking in these terms, they can understand agricultural origins as a truly global phenomenon. - Contents: The Problem Defined -- The Transition Process in Southwest Asia -- The Other Centers of Agricultural Activity -- The Question of Causation Reconsidered -- Bibliographical Note. - John A. Mears, an associate professor of history at Southern Methodist University, received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago where he specialized in early modem Europe. Having published in two areas of particular concern - seventeenth-century military history and comparative revolutionary movements - he has written essays on a variety of curricular and educational topics and coathored a high school world history text. A past president of the World History Association, his recent pulications include contributions to the World History Section of the American Historical Association s Guide to Historical Literature.
