Descrizione libro Routledge, 1997. Condizione libro: New. Brand New, Unread Copy in Perfect Condition. A+ Customer Service! Summary: "Jay Haley has done it again. With his usual clarity of thinking, he challenges our diagnostic models, treatment approaches, and institutions for managing this very difficult, diverse, and disturbed period of development. This book is about change -- and how to achieve in constructively. For all therapists, especially those who treat families and late adolescents, I would say, 'Don't leave home without it.'" -- George W. Burns, Director, Milton H. Erickson Institute of Western AustraliaThis widely praised book, by one of the country's leading family and adolescent therapists, is now available in a second edition including two important new chapters. One presents a model for therapy with psychotic young people in a case study describing the successful therapy of a disturbed youth diagnosed as a chronic schizophrenic. The other chapter, an epilogue, reports on four studies that find nearly half the adolescents diagnosed as schizophrenic became normal as they grew older. The balance of the text addresses a wide variety of problem areas and behavior patterns. It covers the full spectrum from everyday family issues and minor disagreements to drug addiction, violent and extreme behavior, crime, institutionalization, runaways, and religious cults that serve as substitute families. Throughout the book, emphasis is placed squarely on practical, tested techniques that the therapist can employ -- and on enlisting the active aid of the family rather than outside institutions to solve the problem.Therapy recommended in Leaving Home is as short-term as possible in keeping with demands of managed care, and strives to avoid medication and hospitalization wherever possible. This approachworks in favor of families in distress, helps therapists to deal briefly with various problems, and strengthens relations with managers of managed care.
