Sinossi

Chinua Achebe and Fela Anikulapo Kuti: Revolutionary Consciousness in Music and Literature Chinua Achebe and Fela Anikulapo Kuti bring to the fore the role of the creative artist in nation building. This is possible because the artist has undergone metaphysical transformation and is no longer afraid to be hurt physically. Through their works and fearless activism, Achebe and Fela provide us the example of resolute perception. The creative artist reaches this stage by combining the medium of exchange, instruction, incitement, and information. This is done consciously to achieve the essence of humanity. Both Achebe and Fela believe that the preconscious, unconscious, and subconscious dispositions of the people of Africa need to be chronicled to help move forward. The least value the exercise would produce will be a cautionary tale that will reengage reality. Chinua Achebe and Fela Anikulapo Kuti are revolutionary conscious creative artists. Their message is the same. It is about change, which should lead to individual and social liberation. Through the story of Achebe’s novel and Fela’s music, the altered socio-cultural sense of the system is exposed and challenged. And for anyone who is engaged, they are able to identify the origin of the incursion and social disorder. In this light, these conscious creative artists assume their original roles as guardians of social justice. They continue to attack the cultural and behavioral manipulations brought about by the colonial and (post) colonial systems.
