Book spine has Dewey decimal marking in white ink remaining, glue remnant on the back free end paper, faint markings on page edges. The spine of the dustjacket has a crease up the middle ; A tight, solid book, dustjacket in Mylar, unclipped. ; Ex-Library; Small 4to 9" - 11" tall; 602 pages; George Heriot was appointed Deputy Post Master General in 1799. I would imagine he was required to travel though the colonies. He used his talents as an artist to record his travels. This volume contains a number of foldout reproductions of his artwork including a map of the St. Lawrence River which here appears after the Preface instead at the back in the original publication circa 1808. A large section of the book is devoted to The Manners and Customs of the American Indians with an appendix of words from the Algonquin tongue with English meanings. Codice articolo 20434
