These 21 images are a photographic journey through Sri Lankan temples, French gardens, Roman and Egyptian ruins, and nightlife in Latin America. They also document the lives of gypsies in Eastern Europe and political turmoil in El Salvador, Haiti and the Gaza Strip. Among these images of the surreal, the hidden and the unsettling is Larry Trowell's photograph of Palestinian children wielding guns that was awarded the World Press Photo of the Year in 1993. The other photographers featured are Geoffrey James, Ian Paterson, Robert Bourdeau, Serge Clement, Rafael Goldchain, Sima Khorrami, Richard Baillargeon and Benoit Aquin. The commentary of Pierre Dessureault explores the craft, motivation and background of each photographer, draws parallels between their experiences and past journeys by some of history's legendary travellers and fills in the context for the locations and subjects.
