Seeing Through Africa is a memoir built around themes that take us from New York to East Africa and back again.
Born in Brooklyn, Arthur and his wife Lyn went to Kenya as Peace Corps volunteers. From 1965-67, they lived and worked in the western highlands just south of the equator, near Lake Victoria. In many ways, Arthur has never left Kenya. First through letters, later through visits and the Internet, he has remained deeply connected to a country he now thinks of as his second home.
This book takes us through a life as a husband and father, that of a humanist minister, volunteer and teacher. It is a reflection upon memory, misunderstandings, and obligations.
Seeing Through Africa is about guns and beauty, writng and travel, and food. And it is about how differences can be bridged through a concern for the lives of others.
