All three were written in the 1970s and focus on what it means to be an Armenian. The first play, ARMENIANS, is set in 1921 Fresno, California -- Saroyan's hometown. BITLIS continues the story forty years later. The town of Bitlis was in Armenia, but is now part of Turkey, and is the ancestral home of the Saroyan family. HARATCH, set in Paris where Saroyan maintained a second home, considers the Armenian dilemma in the 1970s. Selected Bibliography.
