Married to Sara Hildebrandt in 1937, Pauls was born in Chortitza, Russia & emigrated to Canada in 1923. He died in Leamington in 1995. The first 30 paintings recall the texture of life in German-speaking, Mennonite communities in southern Russia during the decade before the 1917 Revolution. The remaining 10 works reflect memories of life at Hanley and Sonningdale, Saskatchewan, during the late 1920s and 1930s. Historical preface by Leonard Friesen. Conrad Grebel University College holds approx. 25 paintings & significant historical material related to Pauls. Numbered 246 of 500 copies printed. Golden-orange boards with gilt lettering on spine.
