9780923891374: The Complete Games of Bobby Fischer

"As a massive work of reference to Fischer's chess science and technique, and as a tribute to the delights of Fischer's aesthetic prowess, this book can hardly be excelled." Meticulously documented and indexed and copiously illustrated." New Statesman Bobby Fischer became the youngest U.S. champion at the age of fourteen and later went on to defeat Boris Spassky in a titanic match for the world championship at Reykjavik in 1972, becoming the highest rated player of all time (a record surpassed only recently by Gary Kasparov). Having become world champion, he then retired from grandmaster chess. Twenty years after the historic Reykjavik match, there is great public enthusiasm for his return against Boris Spassky. This unique, definitive record of Fischer's amazing career includes: Every traceable serious game that Fischer played from 1955 to 1977 Numerous game annotations A complete record of Fischer's tournaments and matches Special articles by Grandmasters Keres and Bisguier, former British champions Golombek and Borden, and openings expert Blackstock

L'autore:

Robert G. Wade was a chess player, author, journalist and coach. Born on April 10, 1921 in Dunedin, New Zealand, he won the New Zealand championship three times before moving to England in 1948 to further his chess career. He was an International Master and International Arbiter, best known for playing in high level tournaments, including one Interzonal, for winning the British Championship twice, and for writing more than 30 books, of which the most famous by far is this one, ?The Chess Games of Robert J. Fischer?, which was later reprinted with more games added as ?The Chess Games of Bobby Fischer?. His most famous games were his draw with Bobby Fischer (not many players ever got a draw with Bobby Fischer) in the 1965 Capablanca Memorial in Havana Cuba, in which Bobby played by telex from the Marshall Chess Club since the US State Department banned travel to Cuba, and his defeat of Viktor Korchnoi in Buenos Aires 1960 (Korchnoi won the tournament) his draw with Grandmaster Murray Chandler in New Zealand in 2006 at age 85.
