When Dorothy visits Aunt Em and Uncle Henry's new farm in Oz, all the crops suddenly grow to gigantic, unmanageable proportions. Determined to help her aunt and uncle, Dorothy sets off at once with Toto, her faithful dog, and Billina, the spunky yellow chicken, to get help from the Emerald City. But when her companions mysteriously disappear, Dorothy must travel on alone, meeting old and new friends along the way, in an amazing adventure that takes her across the world and even underground.
Forty striking black-and-white pictures illustrate this enchanting addition to the Oz canon by Eric Shanower. Author and artist of five Oz graphic novels, Shanower is an Eisner Award recipient whose additions to the Oz canon are cherished by Emerald City enthusiasts.

Eisner Award–winning author Eric James Shanower is an American writer and illustrator of comics. He is best known for his Oz novels and comics and for his ongoing retelling of the Trojan War, Age of Bronze. From School Library Journal:
Gr 4-6-Giant vegetables in their garden have endangered Uncle Henry and Aunt Em. Dorothy sets out to save the farm and eventually meets a witch named Old Magda. Naturally, she is old, toothless, and nasty to children. She does not like doing mundane chores, and her magical attempts to avoid them are responsible for the bumper crop swallowing the farm. By the time everyone has had an adventure or two, Magda repents. Dorothy's family reclaims their land and the girl finds peace in a pasture with a cow named Imogene. Shanower has competently illustrated his sixth effort on behalf of Oz, but he should have left the writing to someone else. Sentence construction is awkward, dialogue is incredible, and character development is weak. Even with its forced whimsy, the plot fails from the start. For a top-notch graphic novel, try Wendy and Richard Pinis's ``Elfquest'' books (Warp Graphics and Father Tree Pr). For a good Oz story, stick to L. Frank Baum.-Patricia A.
