Book by Hughes, Mary Gray
Two bright, reasonable people who still care about each other and the kids can get a divorce without a big, old house getting in the way, right? Sure, there could be a few minor career conflicts between the linguist husband on the scholarly fast track and the academic wife coping with the demands of a new administrative post. At least they don't have to worry about son Larry; 12 can be a tough age for a shy guy, but he stays busy. Grandpa Haskell may not understand the divorce, but he wouldn't actually interfere... would he? As the situation and the family unravel ever faster, questions, doubts, and lawyers make their inevitable appearance. Eventually, only a miracle or a disaster can possibly provide any sort of resolution. Although in summary this novel may sound like a soap opera, it is in fact an insightful portrayal of personal ambitions, subtle misunderstandings, and surprising machinations enacted by complex, confused, and largely sympathetic people. Highly recommended for public and academic libraries.
