Concerns a Marine fighter pilot who saw his best friend die on the last day of the Viet Nam war. The incident shattered his military career. He feels obligated to return to Seattle to explain things to his friend's father and daughter before trying to put together his civilial life -- finishing construction and flying the Alcor, a sailplane designed to break world records in distance and altitude.
