Charles Hellman is both a storyteller and a writer. His book credits include a novel Bogie: Golf as it was, which deals with the lives of ancient golfers during the eighteenth century in St. Andrews, Scotland. As a golf historian, he often lectures on cruise ships. Mr. Hellman also has several short stories and articles to his credit. With years of strong draftsman skills, Robert Tiritilli helped create his outlandish style and talent of sports cartooning by dually employing representative portraiture and cartoonish lightheartedness. This cartoonist sketched his original artwork very loosely but with intent in blue pencil and then utilized very spontaneously applied inked brushwork. Incorporating the pen-and-ink technique, he is able to suggest shading with well-placed, expressive line work. It is worth noting that most of Tiritilli's sports cartoons have no backgrounds. Clearly by only focusing on central players, he is able to complete a cartoon in faster fashion, and his absence of background imagery also allows for cleaner, easier to distinguish artwork. PhotoShop is used to enhance the drawings.
