Stephen Mark Silvers has master's degree in Spanish from the University of California (UCLA). He also holds a California State Teaching Credential with a specialization in secondary education. Silvers has over thirty years of classroom experience in the Foreign Language Department of the University of the Amazon in Brazil, where he taught all levels of English. He also served as a US Information Agency Teaching Fellow at the Manaus Brazilian-American Cultural Institute. He initiated innovative TPR training for English teachers in the Amazonas state public school system, funded by the Brazilian Ministry of Education under the Program for the Development of New Methodologies. He has made presentations at professional meetings such as the Annual TESOL (Teaching English as a Second Language) in Brazil, Mexico City, and elsewhere. He has publications in the English Teaching Forum, and he is the author of the successful Listen and Perform Student Books in English, Spanish and French, and The Command Book, all based upon Dr. James J. Asher's Total Physical Response, known worldwide as TPR.
