How can Joe convince animals that are terrified of him, or people who blast him with shotguns, that he is not the sort of wolf they are used to?

School Librarian: 'Joe, the young wolf, can't bear to kill and hates the taste of meat. This naturally brings him into conflict with the pack. To save Little Red Riding Hood he tips off the woodcutter which leads to the removal of his brother's head. Saving the three little pigs leads to his sister being boiled alive when she comes greedily down the chimney. When the wolves have cast him out and the pigs, dispite his help, still feel unhappy to have him around, he ends up in town where Dan, a boy, helps him to avoid capture by the bloodthirsty townsfolk. Menanced by the wolf pack, the humans accept Joe's help to frighten the wolves away. This all sounds a bit bleak but, in fact, the story-telling, with its dilemmas, tension, action and humour - Joe walks on two legs, wearing sheriff's gear, with holes in his boots to let his feet stick through, for example - is so good that the story is immensely enjoyable...' --School Librarian
