Hi, I'm Steve, welcome and thank you for visiting this page. I am delighted to communicate and share with other people who play, or wish to learn to play the drum kit - it's a unique and amazing instrument with a long history. A bit about my drumming story: Coming from a family of seven children on a low income, living in a high rise block, I did not get the opportunity to drum as a child (lucky for my family and neighbours!). The first time I heard a drum kit being played live the sound just amazed me. I starting playing on some tins as a teenager and eventually got a drum kit that I took to a friend s house, (his folks soon got us out!) and at age 20years I decided I really wanted to dedicate myself to drumming. I didn't realise at that time where the journey would take me, what I would learn about myself in the process, and that I would play and teach the drums professionally for the rest of my adult life. Over these years I have had the pleasure to play with some great musicians (and lovely people), in hundreds of different bands and in many styles. I have travelled to play in different countries across the world, and have earned enough money with my drumming to live and to support my family and raise my 2 children. My respect for the culture and tradition of drumming has encouraged me to share what I have learnt along the way with others. I have had the opportunity and satisfaction to share the skills and knowledge I have gained, and had the pleasure to coach many young drummers (and some older ones!) and even some who have gone on to become excellent, successful professional drummers themselves. The single thing that inspired me in the early days, was that although I did not have the skills necessary at the beginning, I had self-belief and determination. I found that with effort and by applying myself I could develop my ability to play the drums and learn what it takes to be a good drummer. I'd say regular practice, dedication, and learning the most important skills that you will need to know is the key to success. It's a unique journey, full of interest and adventure, and I want to share what I've learned along the way, with others who are starting on that same journey now. With this in mind, I have written some drumming books and made a video to help you get the very best start with playing the drums. My intention is to help you understand the structure of drumming, to keep it simple, clear and achievable for beginners, so that you can go on to develop your own style of playing, and then discover all the wonderful material that exists to help you on your journey.
