This is Séamus Fox's first book of poems, in which he charts a very human journey during a turbulent period in his life. His poetry focuses on the human condition, upon which he speaks frankly and explicitly, with an acute observational eye. Day to day subjects and lighter themes permeate the book, frequently he talks about family, friends and lovers but juxtaposed against these are broodier topics: philosophy, alcoholism and the creative process are prevalent throughout the pages. Often humorous, sometimes clouded by darkness, this book offers a brutal and touching honesty of how the author escaped from the world and found poetry as a lifeline.
