The Times Literary Supplement praised the Almanach de Gotha for a "punctilious itemization of titles, lineage and heraldry [aiming] for scholarship rather than sensation". Review of an earlier edition: The Almanach de Gotha is as much a part of any European royal family as its own members. It is the last and undisputed word on who is who.
