9780957570023: Killers: The Origins of Iron Maiden, 1975-1983

Formed in East London by bassist Steve Harris in 1975, Iron Maiden are one of the most popular heavy metal bands ever.

It didn't start that way though. Killers -The Origins of Iron Maiden traces their humble roots and the personnel changes that plagued them as the band strived to find the winning formula

Covered here are the legendary Soundhouse Tapes, the two acclaimed Paul Di'Anno fronted albums - the self-titled 1980 debut and 1981's Killers - and the commercial breakthrough with 1982's The Number Of The Beast, which marked Bruce Dickinson's debut, and its highly acclaimed followed up Piece Of Mind, which cemented Iron Maiden's status as the world's biggest heavy metal band.

This unique book is the first to focus on Iron Maiden's important formative years. It includes a foreword by Guns N' Roses guitarist Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal and an afterword from ex-Judas Priest frontman Tim 'Ripper' Owens.

The publisher and author have also received extensive help in tracking down every concert played during the period covered (no easy feat), plus rare memorabilia. Influential fan Ryan LaMar, who runs a website on the band, has been amazingly helpful.

Di'Anno continued to struggle with his voice possibly due to the increasing vocal register of the band's live performances. Burr contracted food poisoning before a gig in Edinburgh and it was so bad he wasn't advised to perform but the band's chief driver and roadie Vic Vella dragged him out of bed with some of the other roadies to and got him to the stage. He fainted at the end of the gig. The band's first headlining tour, though, was a roaring success and included their first ever headline performance at the Rainbow on June 20. They'd even appeared on TV for an episode of ITV's Twentieth Century Box which focused on "New Wave Metal” that was aired on August 18 and featured clips of Maiden performing at the Marquee that had been filmed earlier on in the tour. Maiden played a couple of shows in London and West Runton in mid August before a slot at the Reading Festival on August 23. The Harris/Di'Anno/Murray/Stratton/Burr line-up journeyed through 'Prowler', 'Remember Tomorrow', 'Killers', 'Running Free', 'Transylvania' and 'Iron Maiden'. The performance can be found on the 2002 BBC Archives collection. The festival featured Rory Gallagher, UFO and Whitesnake, Slade and Def Leppard though five bands (G-Force, Ozzy Osbourne's new solo band Blizzard Of Oz, Angel City, Wishbone Ash and The Q-Tips) had to pull out of the pull for various reasons ranging from difficulties with work permits to other commitments. "I remember the night at Reading Festival in front of 30 000 people playing 'Remember Tomorrow', Di'Anno said to Spotlight Report in 2010, "and seeing the lighters go up in the air, fu[ckin'] hell mate, talk about shivers, we weren't that big then so we hadn't experienced that kinda stuff, amazing.”

Descrizione libro Soundcheck Books, United Kingdom, 2014. Paperback. Condizione libro: New. Language: English . Brand New Book. This work is the first to concentrate on Iron Maiden s early years, and their first four albums (plus the rare Soundhouse Tapes). Formed in Leyton, East London, in 1975, by bassist Steve Harris, they went through loads of line up changes before eventually finding charismatic singer Paul Di Anno. Covering this in depth will be of great interest to fans as Di Anno (convicted of benefit fraud in 2011!) is still remembered fondly by hard core supporters, although he was sacked in 1980 due to his fondness for the white powder. The band looked set for success with debut record Killers. Codice libro della libreria AAT9780957570023
