David Day grew up in a small desert town south of the Grand Canyon. His family subscribed to the Arizona Highways Magazine, and as a teenager he spent many hours studying the works of his favorite photographers, Joseph and David Muench. When he was 17 he landed a summer job in a photo shop at the Grand Canyon, and after 3 months of hiking and photographing the canyon his lifelong passion was firmly established. Today he lives in Orem, Utah, where his love of wild places has led to the publication of 6 books about Utah's backcountry. Canyonlands covers an area that is particularly dear to his heart, perhaps because it brings back memories of his childhood experiences in the Grand Canyon.
