The Shop Edition of Lost-Wax Casting has a content that is identical with the standard edition. However, the 8.5 x 11 inch format is larger with wide margins suitable for taking notes or keeping calculations. The wider pages make it easier for the book to lie open on the work bench. In addition, it is useful to take the book to Kinko's, or another local printer, to have the book spine cut off and the loose pages spiral-bound. This makes it possible for the book to rest completely flat on the work bench. In the past the spiral-bound edition has been available on Amazon but the printing and binding cost has made the spiral-bound edition impractical and this modification is left to the buyer.

The content of both editions is a basic introduction to lost-wax casting with emphasis on jewelry making. It is designed to be used both as a textbook and a reference book and is directed primarily for beginners. Experienced casters, however, will probably find some useful ideas; they may even find some new techniques. Heavy emphasis is placed upon understanding why things are done in a particular way, rather than simply presenting a set of cookbook rules that will always work.
