Dennis Field was a Student, a High School teacher, a Counselor, and a University Professor in Education. He has done extensive work in Science Education, Teacher Education, Teacher Competence, and Teacher Discipline. Nancy Gray worked as a High School teacher for many years. She is the mother of two teenage boys, one of whom is currently a university student. She now works in the field of Social Work. Dennis and Nancy published an earlier edition of First Year University: A Survival Guide in the mid 1980s. This new edition involved their visiting many more than 200 students at many colleges and universities across the US and Canada. Thus First Year University: A Survival Guide is three times the size of the original book. In addition, it has a web component, accessed from links in the printed and kindle editions.
