From more than eighty years' wisdom, the poetry of Ruth Allison Coates touches on life as it truly is. Issues of citizenship, discipleship and stewardship run subtly through the thoughts and lines of her writing.
Ruth Allison Coates (1915-2003) was born in Mt. Carmel, Illinois to a "newspaper family." She sold her first story at age 16. Holding degrees from Bethel Women's College (Hopkinsville, Kentucky) and Indiana University (Bloomington), Ruth won several national poetry and literary awards. Her short stories and poems appeared in Phylon, Minnesota Review, The Sun, Byline, Guideposts, Parents Magazine and Boy's Life. Book titles include Great American Naturalists (1974) and Waiting for the Westbound (1992). Widowed in 1987, Ruth was mother to four, grandmother to five and great-grandmother of one.
