Dale B. Mattheis served in the Navy on submarines, practiced medicine and psychiatry, and then operated a wholesale baking company for over a decade before moving into writing. An avid outdorrsman, he recently camped across the United States, traveling over 4,000 miles on back roads. He credits this extremely varied and intense background with many of the insights he went on to capture in Exile to the Stars and books that follow in the series.
