Tornado takes an in-depth look at the most powerful engine designed for Army fighters prior to World War II.About the Author:
Kimble D. McCutcheon was born in Huntsville, Alabama and grew up near there. It was near Huntsville that launch vehicles for the Apollo program and propulsion systems for the Space Shuttle were developed. Steeped in this tradition of propulsion, Kim has been interested in aircraft, engines, and mechanisms for his entire life. He learned to fly at the age of fifteen, paying for his flying lessons by washing and waxing airplanes. Kim financed his higher education by working on airplanes and boats.
While attending the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Kim became enamored with computer hardware and software systems. His professional career was spent developing instrumentation, data acquisition, communications, and control systems for government and industry.
Since his retirement from engineering management in 1993, Kim has divided his time between an aircraft maintenance business, teaching people to fly, and his interest in aircraft engine history.
