The latter half of the 20th century saw a paradigm-change occur at foundational levels with global effect. In this ground-breaking research, Andrew Peters addresses a number of problems, related to leadership in the church, which have arisen out of this paradigm-change. These include: the validity of clerical leadership in the emerging paradigm of diversity; the resistance of the community of faith to the current paradigm-change; and the hiatus in leadership and decision-making that resulted from the catastrophic nature of the paradigm-change. The research is an interdisciplinary approach to paradigm-change and its impact on leadership drawing on sociology, anthropology, history, linguistics, philosophy, hermeneutics, business studies and theology. It produces a correlation with business management (and other disciplines) that attacks the opaque nature of this paradigm-change and the paradigm emerging from it. The research’s new hermeneutic process is robust enough to engage the biblical texts with contemporary issues and bring real insight into the critical issues of our day. Its new theology of leadership enables leaders to work through the tension between mechanical and organic types of organisation and leadership. The re-definition of the term ‘paradigm’ and the recognition of the ‘emerging paradigm of diversity’ call for the development of a new framework of leadership that engages the dynamics of that paradigm. Dr. Andrew Peters has held executive ministry positions as priest, senior pastor, evangelist and educator in the Anglican and ACC (AOG) churches in Australia for over thirty years. He has been senior pastor of over twelve churches in country and city areas, and is currently Senior Pastor/Priest-in-Charge of St Jude the Apostle Anglican Church, Everton Park in Brisbane. He has been Ministry Development Pastor of Garden City Christian Church in Brisbane; Director of Evangelism for Teen Challenge in Kings Cross; and Principal of Garden City College of Ministries and College of Arts in Brisbane. He is a consultant in leadership dynamics and accreditation of Higher Education Colleges and vocational training colleges.
