KPM plaques – paintings on porcelain produced by Berlin Konigliche Porzellan Manufaktur (KPM) were a complete phenomenon of European artistic culture, developed throughout the nineteenth century up until the beginning of the twentieth. These treasures are a rare find in today’s artistic world. KPM Plaques: Gaining an Insight into the Art of Painting on Porcelain covers a broad variety of questions and concepts never-before addressed in any literature. The development of KPM plaques is discussed in direct relation to the development of art in those times, as well as to the changes in artistic styles and tastes. The book also gives detailed advice on the recognition of false marks and answers a variety of common questions regarding authenticity as well as comparing and recognizing quality of painting. In addition, the book is richly illustrated with photos of plaques and miniatures, many of which are rare and are being presented to the public for the first time. Most of these paintings on KPM and continental plaques are described in detail. A unique insight into the art of painting on porcelain, this book will prove useful for anyone who would like to investigate the art’s past, present, and future. Collecting paintings on porcelain plaques, particularly those produced the KPM factory, has become quite a popular and widespread hobby. KPM Plaques: Gaining an Insight into the Art of Painting on Porcelain addresses many questions asked by old and new collectors, and discusses information relating to the history of plaques and miniatures, various subject descriptions, value determinants and techniques in distinguishing the authenticity of KPM plaques. Illustrated with hundreds of high-quality photographs, this book is like a work of art itself.

About the Author:

From the Authors: Our fascination with KPM plaques began with our first encounter with a plaque portraying Beatrice cenci in 1990. We were astounded with the way the light played through the translucent porcelain, and how beautifully the portrait was painted - we knew that we had to have it. We came to realize that it is impossible to buy just one plaque, for it becomes a driving passion to collect as many as you can find (or afford).

Fifteen years and hundreds of porcelain plaques later, we are still mesmerized whenever we gaze at our collection. Much time and effort on our part has been devoted to collecting and researching continental and particularly KPM plaques. We continue to seek new information as well as new plaques, and are also happy to provide advice on authenticity of plaques as well as answer questions or requests for certain plaques that you may see in this book.

If you are interested in receiving more information on particular plaques, would like to buy or sell plaques, or have any questions please email us at roseangel003@yahoo.com. We sincerely hope that this book will aid you in your encounters with the wonderous art that is painting on porcelain.
